How it works
Reverse osmosis – clearly explained
Reverse osmosis is one of the finest water treatment methods available. Here’s what happens inside a BESTNATURAL system.
From a natural principle to technology
In natural osmosis, water moves through a semi-permeable membrane from a less concentrated solution to a more concentrated one – this is how plant roots absorb water, for example.
Reverse osmosis turns this principle around: using the pressure of your household water line, water is pushed through a membrane with extremely fine pores. Water molecules pass through, while most dissolved substances are held back.

Cross-Flow
Cross-flow technology
To keep the membrane from clogging, water flows along its surface. Rejected substances are continuously flushed away with a portion of the water.
The result: a membrane that performs reliably over time and consistently pure drinking water – day after day.
Your water’s journey
The filtration stages in detail
Every filtration stage has a clearly defined task. It is how they work together that makes the difference.
- I
Pre-filtration
A sediment filter catches sand, rust and suspended particles, protecting every stage that follows.
- II
Activated carbon
Activated carbon binds chlorine, odors and organic compounds – the foundation of great taste.
- III
Reverse osmosis
The membrane, with its extremely fine pores, separates dissolved substances from the water. The heart of every system.
- IV
Post-filter
An activated carbon post-filter polishes the water for a clear, neutral taste.
- V
Remineralization
Calcium and magnesium are added back in a controlled way – for balanced, soft drinking water.
What the membrane holds back
Depending on the substance and your source water, the following are significantly reduced:
Actual rejection rates depend on the specific substance, local water quality and the condition of the filters. That is why regular filter service matters.
- Limescale and water hardness
- Nitrate and nitrite
- Heavy metals such as lead and copper
- Pharmaceutical and pesticide residues
- Microplastics and ultra-fine particles
- Chlorine as well as odor and taste compounds
Remineralization
Remineralization: purity with taste
Because the membrane also holds back minerals, our systems add calcium and magnesium back in a dedicated stage. The result is balanced, soft drinking water with a pleasant taste.
